Manufacturing

Ottoway Fabrication Whyalla facility is a fully equipped heavy engineering workshop with over 6800m2 under the main roof. This building is equipped with several overhead cranes ranging in capacity from 10t up to 100t. Within this building we have the equipment, personnel and expertise to carry out Sheet Metal Work, Structural Steel Work, Heavy Engineering Fabrication, Pipe Welding and Heavy Platework. Our second building comprises over 2300m2 under a 25t crane and includes a 240m2 abrasive blasting booth. All are located on a 6Ha site which includes over 3000m2 of hardstand. Our facility has main road frontage offering easy access to major freight routes and uncomplicated wide and high load movements.

With a company history dating back almost 40years in Whyalla we have a strong track record supplying components and complete solutions for major projects. Our experience has included large tanks, conveyors, hoppers, pressure vessels, piping, ducting, structural steel and fabricated sections for mining, processing and infrastructure clients. Recent major project supply history includes:

  • Ore handling bins, chutes and conveyors for Onesteel Project Magnet via Thiess
  • Blast Furnace reline heavy plate work fabrication for Onesteel Whyalla via UnitedKG
  • Acid plant duplex stainless steel fume ducting, process tanks and piping for BHP Billiton Ravensthorpe Nickel via Aker Kvaerner
  • Pipe racks and main plant building structural steel for Honeymoon Uranium Mine via Ausenco
  • Process tanks and pipe work for Prominent Hill Mine via Fluor

Our current work force includes 12 office staff comprising admin, finance, engineering, welding and drafting and in excess of 70 workshop personnel including specialist welders, boilermakers, sheet metal workers, mechanical fitters, riggers, trades assistants and stores.

Complementing our experienced and highly skilled workforce is a full array of fabrication equipment including two CNC Profile Cutting Machines (up to 40mm with arc-air and 300mm with oxy-acet), Steel Plate Width Stripper, Steel Plate Guillotine, four Mitre Cutting Bandsaws, 400tonne Brake Press with a 4050mm Bed Width, three Steel Plate Pyramid Rollers (3100mm wide, maximum thickness 50mm), Steel Section Pyramid Roller, 40tonne Powered Vessel Rotators, Electronic Pipe Bender and numerous manual, wire-fed and sub-arc welding machines.
